Q: Who is this workshop for?
We're looking for professionals who already speak on their given topic, or expect to be speaking soon, i.e. leaders, executives, business owners, academics, researchers, engineers, scientists, professional speakers. You should not attend if you are simply dreaming of becoming a speaker and have no idea what you would speak about.
Q: What is the format?
This workshop is an interactive, hands-on experience that combines short training segments with small group discussions, pairs exercises, quiet individual reflection, group coaching, and hot seats. You will leave with your entire keynote speech outlined in detail, including your main story hook and how to tell it.
Q: Is this only for paid speakers?
You do NOT need to be a paid speaker to attend this workshop, but you should be a professional or aspiring professional speaker. Many of our clients are not even allowed to get paid because they speak to government entities, or for advocacy, or fundraising, or during internal company events, or at industry conferences representing their organizations.
Q: Why focus on speech structure?
Because the right ideas presented in the wrong order are the wrong ideas. Most experts don't struggle with a lack of content, quite the opposite. They struggle with way too much content and no idea what to include, what to cut, and what order to present their information. In this workshop you'll learn the psychology of speech design and how to make any topic engaging to any audience.
Q: What if I have a boring topic?
There are no boring topics, only boring presentations. My guess is that you don't actually think your topic is boring, or you wouldn't be presenting on it. But every time you try to talk about it, your listeners tune out or glaze over. That's simply because you're not presenting the ideas in the right order, which is likely because you don't yet understand how the average listener engages with information. That's what you'll learn in this workshop.
Q: Will I learn presentation skills or slide design?
Not in this workshop. While presentation skills like breath control, eye contact, staging, pacing, dynamics, audience interaction, and slide design are important, they are all useless if your presentation isn't properly structured. This workshop gives you a strong foundation that will stand on its own.
